Formosa Studios is an international development, production, and finance media company with offices in Hollywood and Taipei. Our mission is to create globally captivating, entertaining, and life affirming stories, rich in kinetic adventure, and infused with a Taiwanese and AAPI flair.

Led by Director/Writer/Producer George Huang and Creative Producer Welly Yang, the company is set apart for its high-level expertise in producing films in both Hollywood and Taiwan, along with its distinguished track record in staging live theater productions around the world. Huang is best known for his iconic film Swimming with Sharks, and recently directed and wrote the Luc Besson/Europacorp produced action comedy film Weekend in Taipei, starring Luke Evans, Sung Kang, and Gwei Lun Mei. The film is set to be released in 2024.

FORMOSA FILM FUND

Led by Huang, Yang, and a team of Hollywood advisors with a collective experience of guiding films to over 25 Oscar nominations, Formosa Studios is launching its first film fund, with the target of co-financing a project slate of 5-8 premier Hollywood films. Each film will have a majority of principal photography in Taiwan and consist primarily of English language films with Hollywood stars, paired with Taiwanese talent. These will include strategic collaborations with established Hollywood creators, projects initiated by Founders Huang and Yang, and those by emerging Taiwanese talent.

HOW WE WORK

Development
We develop original concepts and scripts with elements of adventure, family, romance, comedy, music, and a Taiwanese and AAPI flair. We seek to create stories that are uplifting and life affirming.

However, we do not accept unsolicited materials. And anything we receive will be left unopened and returned if sent by mail.

Finance
We can co-finance productions that incorporate a Taiwanese or Taiwanese diaspora element. These elements can include locations, cast, or storyline.

Production
We produce our original developments and collaborate with established creators and producers to bring unique stories to life. While created for the global market, at least 50% of the principal photography of our films take place in Taiwan.

Taiwan offers a dynamic backdrop for any genre and we can help you produce your film or series using its vibrant landscapes, bustling cities, and culturally rich settings. We provide full-service production services, including casting, locations, rentals, budgeting, permitting, and government grants.
